Creative residencies for writers and translators are a long and noble tradition in Europe and across the world. The concept has remained unchanged over centuries – artists are offered a place of temporary residence for several weeks or months, where they can pursue their work in peace and quiet, without the distractions of daily life. That is why three Polish cities – Gdańsk, Cracow and Warsaw – have initiated a scholarship programme for writers and translators.
