80 speakers from 28 countries, 5 roud-table panels, 7 workshops and various presentations: this one-of-a-kind event brought together for the first time all parties involved in literary translation: translators, writers, publishers, booksellers, librarians, training establishments, residencies, book festivals and fairs, and all the organisations supporting literary translation in Europe.
CEATL is delighted to be at the Bologna Children’s Bookfair (BCBF) Translator’ Café with two round tables with different stakeholders of the book chain. CEATL’s collaboration with the BCBF started in 2020 and was made official with a Memorandum of Understanding signed in 2022.

The European Conference on Literary Translation opened on 2 October 2024 with a literary evening featuring the Bulgarian writer Georgi Gospodinov and his translators: Magdalena Pytlak (Polish), Milena Selimi (Albanian), Angela Rodel (English) – co-winner of the Booker Prize International – Marie Vrinat-Nikolov (French) and María Vútova (Spanish).

The European Conference on Literary Translation is an initiative of CEATL (European Council of Literary Translators’ Associations) as part of the UNESCO World Book Capital programme.
CEATL held its Annual General Meeting in the Icelandic capital from 25th to 27th April under a clear blue sky. The AGM is always an eagerly-awaited occasion for an association like ours, whose members are scattered across Europe. Each year provides an opportunity to explore the home base of one of our member associations and to familiarise ourselves with the local publishing sector.
Another busy #BCBF came to an end last week. Here are some observations from four intensive days of Bookfair meetings, workshops and events where CEATL had quite a few things to do!

Last 21 April, as part of a weeklong celebration of Sant Jordi Day and International Book Day, Catalan associations APTIC and AELC were happy to invite FIT and CEATL, which were present in Barcelona, to a joint event at the Gabriel García Márquez Library.
On Friday 21st, CEATL, FIT (International Federation of Translators), AELC (Association of Catalan Language Writers) and APTIC (Professional Association of Translators and Interpreters of Catalonia) met in order to get to know each other better and to discuss their various projects.
