The CEATL AGM 2019 took place in Norwich and a new board was elected
CEATL has just held its Annual General Meeting in Norwich (May 9th-11th 2019). Forty delegates from twenty-six countries attended, and a new board was elected, comprising four former members and two new additions:
Morten Visby – Chairperson of the Board / Président du conseil d’administration (Danish Translators’ Association)
Lara Hölbling Matković – Secretary-General / Secrétaire général (Croatian Literary Translators’ Association (DHKP))
Shaun Whiteside – Treasurer / Trésorier (Translators Association, UK)
Bjørn Herrman – Vice-President / Vice-président (Norsk Oversetterforening, Norway)
Miquel Cabal Guarro – Vice-president / Vice-président (Associació d’Escriptors en Llengua Catalana (AELC), Spain)
Valérie Le Plouhinec – Secretary of the Board / Secrétaire du conseil d’administration (Association des traducteurs littéraires de France (ATLF), France)
The various working groups met separately before presenting their reports and future projects in the plenary session. Time was also set aside for delegates to share success stories from their associations.
Several mini-labs were run with the aim of sharing experiences regarding member recruitment, improving media visibility, fundraising, encouraging a more active membership, lifelong learning, mentoring, and starting a dialogue with publishers.
A seminar on best practices was organized by our hosts (the UK Translators Association) with the participation of the National Centre for Writing (https://nationalcentreforwriting NULL.org NULL.uk/) (Chris Gribble, Sarah Bower, Kate Griffin), the British Centre for Literary Translation (http://www NULL.bclt NULL.org NULL.uk/) (Duncan Large), the Society of Authors (https://www NULL.societyofauthors NULL.org/) (Catherine Fuller), the Translators Association (https://www NULL.societyofauthors NULL.org/groups/translators) (Charlotte Collins, Ruth Martin) and Daniel Hahn. Delegates also attended a public panel discussion between invited European translators of W. G. Sebald.
CEATL would like to thank the organizers (the UK Translators’ Association/Society of Authors) and its partners: National Centre for Writing, British Centre for Literary Translation, British Council, Authors‘ Licensing and Collecting Society, AmazonCrossing. The organization was impeccable, and we couldn’t have had a better venue than the historic Dragon Hall.
