The Spanish Ministry of Culture and Education has launched the campaign “Autores invisibles” (“Invisible Authors”) to celebrate International Translation Day, and support translators and promote their visibility. This initiative is the result of the constant and continuous efforts of several translators’ associations (including ACE Traductores (http://www NULL.ace-traductores NULL.org/)) to increase awareness of the essential work carried out by translators.
The campaign involves distribution of a video across various social media. The main characters in this video are some major renowned translators such as Celia Filipetto (the translator of Elena Ferrante’s novels, and a member of ACE Traductores and ACEC (http://www NULL.acec-web NULL.org/cat/default NULL.asp)), Gemma Rovira (the translator of several of the Harry Potter titles, and a member of ACE Traductores and APTIC), Marta Sánchez-Nieves (a member of ACE Traductores who was awarded the Esther Benítez Prize last year), and David Jou (the translator of Stephen Hawking, and a member of AELC (https://www NULL.escriptors NULL.cat/)). The video is accompanied by a Twitter campaign with the hashtag #descubrealtraductor (“discover the translator”).
Hopefully, actions like this will help to raise awareness of translation among readers and improve the status of translators.
