This year, the Dominykas Urbas Prize for young translators (not older than 35), which is given for the best first or second book-length translation into Lithuanian, went to Toma Gudelytė for her excellent translation from Italian of Gerico 1941. Storie di ghetto e dintorni by Igor Argamante. This prize is awarded annually on the 28 April, the birthday of the outstanding translator, editor and linguist Dominykas Urbas (1908-1996).

The Translator of the Year prize was given to Daiva Daugirdienė for her translation of The Captured Shadow, a collection of short stories by F. Scott Fitzgerald. As noted by the Ministry of Culture, Ms Daugirdienė was awarded the prize for her excellent and creative translation and masterful rendering of stylistic diversity. The book was published by the publishing house Sofoklis. Ms. Daugirdienė has also translated books by John Irving, Jane Austin, William Styron, Edna O’Brien, etc.

The honour of being ‘Translator of the Year’ comes with its traditional prize – an armchair (or ‘throne’, referenced in the title of the prize in Lithuanian) . The sponsor of the award is the poet Gintaras Bleizgys.
On September 30 the Lithuanian Association of Literary Translators, keeping with tradition, organized its International Translation Day Festival and its St. Jerome Prizes award ceremony.
The St. Jerome Prize comes in two categories: 1) to a translator of literature (fiction, humanities) for the most professional and skillful translations into Lithuanian of the past three years, as well as notable lifelong contribution to the translation profession, to the theory and criticism of literary translation and to the training of translators; 2) to a translator of Lithuanian literature (fiction, humanities) for professional and skillful translations into a foreign language, and for the promotion of Lithuanian literature abroad.

This year the St. Jerome Prize for the translation of foreign literature into Lithuanian was presented to Renata Zajančkauskaitė, who translates from Latvian. The St Jerome Prize to a translator of Lithuanian literature into a foreign language went to the famous translator Dmytro Čerednyčenko, who works into Ukrainian.
