From 7 to 11 June 2016 the 47th Poetry International Festival (http://www NULL.poetryinternationalweb NULL.net/pi/site/aboutus/item/23155) will take place in Rotterdam.
This annual festival is a renowned meeting place for all poets, translators and lovers of poetry. It is organised by the foundation Poetry International, which aims to draw attention to good poetry from all over the world, and to stimulate exchanges between poets, translators and amateurs in poetry from all countries. For this reason translation activities occupy an important place in the festival. The programme In Other Words invites professional and amateur translators to translate a number of selected poems.
In honour of having drawn attention to translation and translators for twenty-five years, Poetry International was given the Vertaalengel (http://www NULL.vvl NULL.nu/vvl/site/article/item/685/Juryrapport-Vertaalengel-en-Vertaalduivel-2016) or ‘Angel of Translation’ in 2015. This is an award established by a working group of literary translators in the Dutch association of Authors and Translators (VvL (http://www NULL.vvl NULL.nu/vvl/index NULL.php)). The prize is awarded to a person (who is not a translator) or an institution demonstrating a commitment to translation in an extraordinary way.
