The 2014 Leipzig Book Fair Prize for translation has been awarded to the author, translator, director and editor Robin Detje for his translation of William T. Vollmanns’ opus magnum Europe Central. Detje’s German translation of the English original appeared under the same title. The award jury highly commended Detje’s achievement in rendering the diversity of voices in Vollmanns’ great novel into German.
The prize is awarded annually during the Leipzig Book Fair to outstanding newly released literary works in the categories Fiction, Non-fiction and Translation. It is considered to be one of the three most important German book awards, together with the German Book Prize and Straelen Translation award. The winner in each category receives € 15,000.
